In Catalonia Tió de Nadal, the Christmas Log, is a small hollow log standing on two legs with a painted on smiling face. On January 4 families go to the bakery to buy a Roscón de Reyes, a sweet circular cake that is enjoyed for breakfast on January 5, Epiphany Eve. There is much anticipation and excitement leading up to this visit starting on December 26, Boxing Day, when children write letters to the Kings asking for presents. Instead, children are widely visited on January 6, the day of Epiphany, by the Reyes Magos, or the Three Kings / Three Wise Men who bestowed gifts upon the baby Jesus: Gaspar, the King of Sheba, who brought Frankincense Melchior, the King of Arabia, who gifted Gold and Balthazar, King of Tarse and Egypt, who gave Myrrh. I recommend it, as long as you don't expect something emotionally involving or brilliant story-wise.Until recent years, Father Christmas or Santa Claus and his flying reindeer didn’t make stops in Spain.

This is a fun movie with good visuals and an interesting twist on a familiar tale. It works because his films are so nice to look at. He rarely delivers great stories and instead relies on fairytale clichés (Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, etc.). And, for a children's tale, some pretty scary stuff! Overall this is style over substance, as are most films associated with Burton.
It used to boast, "From producer Tim Burton!" and his influence is very clear - extremely Gothic visuals. The ads for this movie were always very grim. Inspired, Jack decides to kidnap Santa Claus and turn Christmas into Halloween. One day he wanders outside the limits of the haunted city and through a snowy forest, finding Santa Claus and his Elves' workshop. But Jack longs for a different life outside the restraints of horror - he doesn't like who he is. Jack is a skeleton living in a scary faraway dimension where bizarre creatures reside and embark to scare children on Halloween every year.
